Top Birthing Affirmations for a Peaceful Labor

From a Rockford Newborn Photographer

& Mom of 2

Utilizing birthing affirmations absolutely transformed my birthing experience. I was NOT prepared for labor & delivery with my first child. I kind of just thought it would be something I would have to figure out in the moment. With my second baby, I was not as naive. I had a birth plan in my head, and although I had prepared myself to be flexible, I knew how I wanted things to go in an ideal world. And let me tell you- this made all the difference. My mindset was a million times better, I was able to breathe through contractions, and it was overall just a more calm & positive experience the second time around. Plus, I felt so much more EMPOWERED! The main thing that was different? I had prepared 3 affirmations ahead of time. I read through a TON, but I chose just 3 that resonated with me, I wrote them down, and memorized them. I repeated them in my head and out loud while laboring.

Here is the list of Birth Affirmations that I used, plus some extras!

  1. I trust that my body knows exactly what to do.

  2. I am powerful and strong.

  3. The pain of labor is temporary.

  4. Each contraction brings my baby closer to me.

  5. My body was made to do this.

  6. I will release all worries with each breath.

  7. I breathe deeply; I am relaxed.

  8. I can do anything for 1 minute.

  9. The contractions may be strong, but I am stronger.

  10. I loosen my muscles with each contraction.

Another option is to listen to birthing affirmations! These are like guided meditations, specifically made for labor & delivery (or even leading up to it!) This can be helpful if you feel you may get overwhelmed and forget your plan amidst the contractions. Downloading some options on your phone, or to your partner’s phone, as a backup could be a great idea! It’s also always a great idea to communicate your desires with your partner, that way they are aware of your plans and can help you stay focused in the way that you need.

Wishing you a calm, peaceful, & safe birthing experience.
