Parents, if you struggle to take photos of your kids, you are not alone! Even professional photographers need to dedicate extra time and patience when photographing their own children. This little guy is my youngest, and let me tell you, my own boys are some of my best and worst clients! (But I wouldn’t have it any other way)

That being said, you will not want to look back on your baby’s photos and realize when it’s too late that they are crying, or blinking, or crawling away from you… in Every. Single. Photo. People LOVE to tell new parents to enjoy their time with their little ones, because it goes by "too fast!" It wasn’t until I became a mother that I realized just how true this is! Babies grow so rapidly, especially in their first year, and it is so so special to have beautiful photographs taken along the way, to look back on and admire just how much your baby has grown in such a short time. Milestone sessions are the perfect way to ensure you have those timeless images to cherish for years to come.

Milestone sessions are typically suggested to be done at 3, 6, 9, and 12 months. Honestly though, having photos taken at those exact times isn’t what is important. Motherhood is chaotic, and scheduling sessions right on time doesn’t always happen. Milestone sessions can really be done at any time in the first year (And yes, even beyond! Stay tuned for my 3 year old’s upcoming session.) The result at 4 months, or 8 months, is the same- the growth of your precious little one documented for you to look back on and remember just how little they once were!

My little boy happened to be exactly 6 months at the time of this session. He’s not quite sitting up on his own yet, so we’ll do another "sitter session" when he hits that milestone. For this session, we mostly did tummy time, and a few on his back. He is in his rolling over era, so capturing him during this milestone was so fun and very special to me!

What to expect from your milestone photography session:

My goal during each session is to meet baby where they are. Whatever special new milestone baby is achieving, whether it’s laying on their tummy, grabbing for toys, sitting, crawling, or pulling themselves up to stand, I want to document that for you! My style is bright, clean, and baby-focused. I believe your photos should be a true reflection of your child at that moment in time. Oftentimes, clients also choose to add on a family portion to their milestone session. This is a great way to add in some poses of baby with mom and dad, or even to document them interacting with older siblings. I also love to snap some black and white personality photos during each milestone session, capturing all of your baby’s silly (or sometimes serious!) expressions. These are so fun, and they make beautiful wall art!

If you are in the Rockford area, and are looking for a newborn, milestone, or family photographer to document your baby’s first year and beyond, send me a message! I would love to chat with you more.
