If you’re on Pinterest, Instagram, or any other social media platform, I’m sure you’ve seen plenty of posts of gorgeous photo sessions taken in local wildflower fields. Wildflowers provide a pop of color to your photographs and create a dreamy backdrop. Combined with the golden hour glow, it’s the ultimate backdrop for summer sessions! Unfortunately, finding a beautiful blooming field locally can be tough. I’ve found that many sessions take place on people’s private property, so finding a public place to get this perfect background is rare! That’s why I’ve compiled this list!

Top 3 Spots for Wildflower Photography in the Rockford Area

1. Byron Forest Preserve

   A short drive from the city of Rockford, Jarrett Prairie at Bryon Forest Preserve is the ULTIMATE location for wildflower sessions. I love posing clients in the field of wildflowers with a sunset view behind them. The forest preserve also features an observatory, exhibits and learning opportunities at the Prairie Center, and backs up to a gorgeous golf course. Most importantly, it offers endless opportunities for gorgeous photographs.

2. Spencer Park

   Located in Belvidere, Spencer Park features blooming wildflowers for much of the summer. There are also plenty of trails for other unique photo opportunities, as well as a pond for another great spot to incorporate into your session.

3. Rock Cut State Park

   If you live in the Rockford area, there’s a great chance you’ve been to, or at least have heard of, Rock Cut State Park. With multiple entrances, this large park offers so many beautiful backdrops, it’s impossible to list them all. There are many wildflower fields that can be easily spotted when driving through the park, as well as numerous trails for finding other great floral backdrops within the park.

The best part? Each of these locations offers similarly gorgeous backdrops even in the off season when the wildflowers aren’t in bloom! Don’t be afraid to check them out any time of year. You’ll likely be just as impressed, especially in the fall!
